Crime - Vehicle Theft

The National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) recently released its latest study of national vehicle theft trends. In 1996, the metropolitan area with the highest vehicle crimes rate was Jersey City, N.J. Seven of the metropolitan areas listed on the 1994 list remain on the 1996 list. Leaving the 1996 list are Jackson, Missippi, Stockton-Lodi, California, and Sacramento, California. They have been replaced by, New Orleans, Louisiana, Tucson, Arizona, and Pine Bluff, Arkansas.

The NICB also identified the most commonly stolen vehicles in 1996 in several metropolitan areas. Overall, the Honda Accord was the number one stolen vehicle in the United States.
